Topic for long, formal report (proposal) for technical writing?

I'm a mechanical engineering major (focus in cars and engines) and my technical writing class wants me to write a proposal report. I just needs some ideas on what would be a good topic. I've only really taken basic engineering courses so I don't want to use something too in depth.. but it still should be somewhat based on my major

"The case for hydrogen powered cars" would make an extremely fascinating report. Don't forget to include the challenges of gas storage, infrastructure, public safety, and range (miles per tank).
