About to go on my 'dream job' interview. I'm excited. What should I bring with me?
In about 90 minutes I'm going on an interview for a great job. Working on documentary films and reports about Latin America--a full time position! I have lots of stuff I could bring besides my resume (they have it already). I have my State certificate stating I'm proficient in the Spanish language; some writing samples--English and Spanish--letters of commendation from some 'well-known' respected people, samples of graphic arts projects I've completed, projects similar to the ones this company does, etc. Should I just bring everything, and if I think it's appropriate, mention that I happen to have this or that document? I tend to get enthusiastic when I show this stuff, and I can get carried away, but I don't want to seem pushy. Or should I play it cool and business-like, and mention things calmly, like "Oh, by the way, I believe I have an essay you might find appropriate to the position? I'm getting ready to go. Let me know soon! Thanks ; )
You can never be too prepared for an interview. However, instead of just whipping out everything at once else you should wait for the interviewer to ask you, or for the right opportunity. For example, the interviewer might say, "According to your resume, you're proficient in Spanish." Then you can respond by saying you are proficient (reading, speaking, etc) and you have a certificate because you passed the state exam. If they ask for recommendations, you can just give it there right away. If they ask "are you familiar with our work?", you can obviously say yes you are and you have some of your own work to show (if they're interested).
By all means, show your enthusiasm! Show them you want to work for them, show them you have the skills and how you can contribute to the company.
Good luck!!
