Problem writing music to a CD?

During startup a black screen with white writing appears for a few seconds. At the bottom it says Atapi CD/Rom........Failure! Windows then loads and everything works fine except when i try to put music onto a CD. I've tried Nero & Windows Media Player & neither work properly. They go through the initializing fine, and begin writing to disc. But the process stops at normally 99% complete. Then the failure screen pops up and the disc ejects. The Nero report for the failure states Buffer Underrun. But doesn't say whether it can be fixed or how. I've gone to My Computor and checked CD/Drive and it says working fine, no yellow question marks anywhere.I've checked the drivers and the report is that the best drivers for the device are already selected. What else could it be. Help please

The most common causes of buffer underrun are out-of-date drivers or a system that does not meet the minimum requirements for CD burning. Before attempting to record onto a CD, check that your CPU and hard drive are fast enough to support CD recording and that your computer has enough RAM and available hard disk space. It is also important to have the latest drivers for the CD-R drive, IDE or SCSI controller.
