Ofsted have compiled a report saying that half of our state schools are not providing a good education. The report was based on inspections done between the autumn of 2010 and spring 2011.
This is the SAME outfit who were supplying information to the last government, the labour party, and they had nothing but glowing reports, if that's to be believed. Year on year the major exam results have got better and better in this country and yet more and more employers, including those who employ graduates are horrified at the poor levels of basic mathematics, written and spoken english.
Who actually monitors Ofsted and what qualifications do they have?

Good question this, since spelling and grammar were relegated in favour of 'content' and marks not deducted for bad spelling and grammar plus the use of 'spell-check' it is no wonder that pupils have become lazy.
Basic arithmetic is appalling in the workplace, go to any shop or cafe/bar and not one person can add up sales and give the correct change without the assistance of an electronic till.

If teachers were allowed to teach instead of being social workers and proper discipline were to be reintroduced into schools there could well be an improvement.

Note: All of the other subjects taught in schools are subject to falling standards as well.
The trouble with Ofsted and other similar bodies is that they tend to report to their masters what they want to hear rather than the reality of the situation.
