Can I Get A Journalism Job With An English Degree In Professional Writing?

I asked this a while back and everybody kept telling me I couldn't but I was looking at a lot of news anchors and journalist and a lot of them majored in english? (katie couric)

Anyways, is professional writing journalism? Because a lot of people say it pertains more to the publishing field but I thought that was creative writing? I'm lost and my school doesn't have a direct journalism degree so I need help. Thanks in advance :)
