Technical Writer Houston

Is this an appropriate salary for this position?

I have a bachelors with a double major in public relations and journalism and a minor in Spanish. I am currently employed as a Technical Writer for National Oilwell and as a part time media relations associate with the Houston Rockets. My combined total of PR experience since I graduate in May is about 2 to 3 years. I recently applied for an account executive position at a PR Firm. I did a phone interview which I think went pretty well, however when she asked me about salary requirements I told her it was negotiable but then back door and asked her what she felt was a typical amount for someone with my experience in the field to make. She said that she couldn't remember but she thought the position may be paying somewhere in the mid 20's range a year. I think that is ridiculoulsly low. Is that normal for the field and working for a PR firm. To take that job I would take a significant pay cut.

Also: What would be an appropriate salary to ask for?

you just said that its an account executive position. Which to me sounds like sales. $20k might be reasonable if there's a huge commission structure.

I work in software. Our Account Execs start at 80k plus low commissions, but a good rep can still pull in 300k plus.
