How Write A Book Report

Book report

Book report will talk about different dimensions of a book. A report is meant to give information to a person or a body of persons not in the possession of full facts about the subject with which it deals. Therefore, it is necessary that the writer of a report should have a good knowledge of the subject on which he is writing the report. This should not, however, suggest that he should be an expert but only that he should not be completely ignorant of the subject of the issue, he is discussing. The subjects on which a person could be asked to write a report can be numerous.

The first important thing about writing a book report is to do detail study regarding the book, the background of the plot, and the review of different critics. This survey work is absolutely vital before writing the original report. Expenditure of time and money incurred in this survey is an important point. If a lot of money has been spent on a comparatively less important research work, it is considered a defect. Therefore, before starting the research work a detail of expenditure should be made before hand. If possible, clearly mention all the possible expenditure like how much money has been spent on different items such as wages, traveling allowance, purchase of books and magazines etc. This detailed analysis of expenditure will save you from unnecessary expenditure at the time of actual research work. This also gives an idea about expenditure to the succeeding researcher so that their job is facilitated.

At the time of writing the report the writer needs to be totally unbiased and write his report totally based on the facts and figures those he had gathered at the time of doing his research work. The common belief and pre conceived notion should not arrive between the writer and the truth.

The following points are considered to be the aims of writing report-

1)      Expansion of knowledge- Each research adds to our knowledge. Therefore, it is necessary to communicate its conclusions. If the conclusions are not published, the money, time and labor spent on the research will not be used. Therefore, report of the research is a must. By reading it other investigators may use it for their own purpose. Some times a report serves as a guide book to a new report writer.

2)      Verification of validity- Reporting helps in verification of the validity of the conclusions of the research. When the study is reported in a proper form, it clears out that the survey is free from self contradictions or irregularities. As the public comes to know the conclusions of a research through its report, it may be applied in actual life and in due course the validity of its conclusions will be verified. If some adverse report is available from the public the conclusions may be verified again or fresh programs of research may be taken up.

  1. From the above discussion it is clear that the book report should be written after doing a thorough research about the book.

How To Write A Book Report

How Do You Write a Book Report?

I have written research papers, analytical papers on books, such as beloved, analyzed poems and stories for diction and word choice more times than id like to remember. But i have never written a Book Report

How does one go about it, what should the title be. Im in college now, but this problem has me flabbergasted

Knowing how to write a good, effective paper is extremely important. Having the ability to communicate and argue a point is an essential skill for success. In particular, writing a paper about a book or piece of literature requires great care. However, once you have an idea of a basic structure to follow when writing a paper, you will have everything you need to write an effective one. The heart that beats at the center of any paper is the thesis. The thesis is a basic idea or point that is being proven in your paper. Basically, it outlines the purpose of the essay and presents your argument. In college, it is not enough to simply summarize a novel. Instead, you have to pick it apart, find a meaning in it, and then proceed to prove the impact that meaning has on the piece and world. It can be overwhelming, but a thesis can be broken down to its most basic format by using this equation: In ____, the author demonstrates ___ by (A), (B), (C). Present the argument first, then follow it up with general support from the text.

Once you have your thesis, you are prepared to write the rest of your paper. The introductory paragraph should be centered on the thesis, eventually introducing it to the paper.

In the body paragraphs, I suggest using the claim, data, warrant structure. Basically what you want to do is begin every paragraph with a claim, a general statement (kind of like a thesis for the paragraph) that outlines what you will talk about in that section. Then, the data, textual support/evidence, should be used to reinforce the claim. Lastly, the warrant will tie up the paragraph by summarizing your argument and beginning the transition into the next paragraph.

If you think about it, your book report as a whole could be viewed from a claim, data, warrant standpoint. The introduction and thesis is the claim, the body is the data, and the conclusion is the warrant. Therefore, in the final paragraph, you want to lightly summarize the points you covered in the report. To make a satisfying conclusion, you also might want to include how the topic of your paper relates to a broader idea, whether it has to do with the novel as a whole or the world in general.

I hope this helps!!!:)

Book Report: John Locke’s Essay Concerning Human Understanding

Students may view book report as a demanding scholastic requirement. The most important thing for students to remember is that a coherent flow on the presentation of ideas would be helpful. Students can also explore interesting topics, which can prove to be eye openers in their understanding of concepts.

A good example of a book report material is John Locke’s “Essay Concerning Human Understanding.” In this book, the theory of knowledge is lengthily discussed. Philosophy students can gain a different insight on the source of human knowledge. The four-part book went into a thorough discussion on how people develop their theory of knowledge.

In doing a book report, students can produce a comprehensive analysis of Locke’s theory by compartmentalizing their discussions based on the book’s four parts.

Book I

Titled “Of Innate Ideas,” this part tries to debunk the Cartesian view of knowledge, which advocates for the separation of mind and body. Descartes’ take on knowledge is that understanding is a product of social participation. The book presents an argument against the probability of an inherent propositional knowledge and an argument against the probability of inherent ideas.

Locke then proposes his own theory of the origins of knowledge, an extensive explanation of which is found in Book II.

Book II

Experience brings to life man’s knowledge. This may take two routes: either through the senses or through the mind’s contemplation of its own process. Ideas are also categorized as simple or complex. Simple ideas serve as building blocks of complex ones. The author develops specific subcategories based on these two routes.

Book III

“Of Words” puts emphasis on the philosophy of language, with an emphasis on ideas. Locke’s theory of meaning posits that words are in fact ideas in people’s heads instead of representation of things in the external world. Again, comprehensive ontological discussion follows after the author attempts to provide his version on how human beings create general terms based on particular objects.

Book IV

“Of Knowledge and Opinion” finally presents the theory of knowledge, which is initially defined as one that treats most sciences, with the exception of morality and mathematics, ineligible. Locke believes that people’s concept of knowledge is established through strong external relations without being influenced by the external world.

In conclusion, Locke supports the continued data collection of the scientific community to achieve a better understanding of the world.

A book report such as this one would broaden the student’s perception of the world. This way, students can discover new ideas and learn about traditional and novel concepts. Thus, a book report can be a good start to learn new things.

Writing A Technical Book

writing a technical book"writing a technical book"
What is the technical name for books written like a journal/diary/letter?

I'm doing a paper on "Letters from an American Farmer" for my English class. It is made up of (obviously) letters sent from an American farmer describing American society. I remember being given a technical name for these types of books. What is it?

books comprised of letters are called epistolary novels, such as Dangerous Liaisons.
