Can someone be both a good technical writer and creative writer?
Say you naturally have a flair for creative writing, but for career purposes take training to learn technical and professional writing, but you do your own creative writing on the side. Is this possible? I read that some people say you can either be a good tech writer, or good creative writer, but you can't be both. I don't see why this has to be the case.
Yes, why not? They are completely different skills. Loads of people are good at more than one thing. Loads of people have a hobby entirely separate from their career.
But being good (or trained) at one won't make you good at the other.
Many of the good creative writers I know have a job which involves technical writing to some extent.
