Scientific Report Writing?

I have to write a scientific Report for my Chemistry assignment,
And everything I have found is all sort of the layout for a umm Prac. write up.
We had to research a mineral , and the processed of extraction and so on.. and relate it to the age it came from..
But I dont see How i can fit my information into the Method? results? part that I have seen on the Internet?

Is there a different way to writing a scientific report?

All scientific papers are written in the same general format. Abstract, introduction, materials and methods, results, discussion and literature cited. The first time writing this type of paper can be very daunting. I find it easier to write the results then the discussion followed by the introduction and methods and finally the abstract.

Your method is most likely spelled out for you in your lab manual. You DO NOT want to copy it straight from the manual. Look at your notes and what was in the manual and write down what you did. You want this to be clear and organized. Ideally you should be able to hand this paper to a student next semester and they would be able to replicated exactly what you did. Write this in 3rd person. "The sample was determined to be 2.0 grams" not "I weight the sample and it was 2.0 grams".

The results section can be a little tricky. You want only to state the results you got from your experiment, you do not want to discuss what they mean. In your case this may be a very short section, a paragraph or two.

The explanation of what the results means is left for the discussion.

I hope that helps. The more you write this type of paper the better you get, and the more you learn how to take proper lab notes.
