What's you opinion on whether this is appropriate to include?
I'm still writing that report on Piri Thomas' "Down These Mean Streets," an autobiography on his life in Spanish Harlem. It's a class assigment, a "reaction paper," if you will, but I'm having a bit of trouble with something.
There were several sexually explicit scenes including, but no limited to, receiving oral sex from a cross-dresser as a young teenager and impregnating a cousin of his friend.
Both scenes are described in vivid detail -- too much detail, in my opinion. I'm only 15, and I didn't think this was appropriate for a school assignment. Do you think it's appropriate for me to include my opinion of these scenes, which was one of general unease? I'm not sure if I should just leave it out all together, but I'd like to express my opinion. I'm only worried because this will be used as a writing sample for my new English teacher.
I'd really like to hear your opinion! (Just please, don't tell me I'm immature because I'm uncomfortable.)
I think you are absolutely right in thinking this inappropriate to comment on at your age. I would go to your teacher first and talk to her about it. I can't imagine her being unreasonable about it. If she is, then talk to your parents and have them proceed with her superiors. I think you are not being immature at all, quite the opposite and good for you in picking up on this!
