You should minor in something that will help your writing career (phsychology, english -which is somewhat helpful I assure you, regardless of how much it's used literally) and focus on majoring on another career you'd enjoy. It's not that I doubt your writing capabilities, but there is not as big a promise of full time income for authors. It's like acting, even if your really good, there's a lot of luck involved in making the big time. So find another job you also enjoy that could perhaps even aid your novel writing. Teaching is a good one that gives you most of the summer off for writing! Or the veterinary business since you like animals is also a full time with spare time to write.

The second is that letters can be as long as the writer wants them to be while memos are written in a very condensed manner with a lot of
information in very little space. Nothing unnecessary is included. There's no Dear Sir orYours truly in a memo. Just the facts.
