How To Increase Readership For Newsletter

Hi there,

I am back again with yet another refreshing article.

I am an Assistant to the Director. Its been 5 years 10 months I am flourishing in my career.

Since 2005 Dec, I discovered the creative side within me when I joined Blue Dart Express Limited as an Executive Assistant to Senior Vice President – Marketing and Projects. I was a regular reader and contributor to the Company "Daily news" newsletter which was also created in-house by our team.

When I joined Schneider on 10-Dec-07, one of my KPIs was starting a newsletter for the All India Team. Initially I was a bit scared to take up the challenge but as I started the process, day by day it started becoming exciting. I tried to put special issues on Independence Day by putting a flag with a small writeup and stuff. Regular feedbacks helped me improve the content, the format from time to time. Last year, we had our 50th volume on 22nd December, when I got an idea to have a special inputs from all direct reports to our Director i.e the All India managers. I made it extremely special with a nice note with emoticons with the summaries from most of them summarizing the year’s achievement, note to the team, directions for 2009.

In 2009, we had a surprise survey when we discovered the readership of newsletter was 60.99% with 57 replying with "Yes" out of 107 team members.

So for this year, my KPIs happened to increase the readership of the newsletter After applying some thoughts, I discussed with couple of people across the country and came out with following exciting and new features which would improve readership & encourage your writing skills.

a) "Taare Zameen Par" (Stars on Earth) wherein two members, from the All India team, would give a short article every week which can comprise of success story, learnings, tip etc, which you think is useful to the All India team. This needs to also be accompanied by a short profile with photo (Compulsory). This was inaugurated with an article from Director of the Division.

b) There will be a surprise contest every quarter, in which we will be asking just one question out of the newsletter volumes appearing in that Quarter. The results will be announced as: - No of people responded out of total 107 members in ISC (This will also help us track readership every quarter) - Name of the 2 Lucky Winners, who will win fantastic prizes like movie tickets for two, visiting card holder etc!!!!

c) Bumper Prize at the end of the year for the lucky ones who submit a complete Case study of a successful order (Here we requested the regional heads to encourage participation of their team members: - Details of Case Study - Personal Profile (Name, Designation, Location, Photo, Job details in short, Reporting to) - "Testimonials" for our products from the customers - Appreciation letter from the Customer for the applicant - The Winner will be awarded a special prize and the case study will be recognised as The "Best Practice in ISC for 2009" which will appear in Platinum (100th) Volume on 7th Dec 09. - Enteries should reach us by 15th October 2009

Taare Zameen Par initiative is a big hit. Am now working on the contest where the prizes I am thinking is to give - Movie for two, Dinner for two.

Also next week there will be a reminder on the Case Study for Best Practice in 2009, where we will announce that the lucky winner will get an opportunity to dine with his family alongwith the Segment Director who on that special night will also give him a special prize.

I put some thoughts to make the newsletter an effective one and its working well.
