How do environmental conditions affect the activity of enzymes?
I have to write a lab report for ap bio on this problem. For the lab there were 5 factors tested: pH,temperature, enzyme concentration, substrate concentration, and inhibitor concentration(copper sulfate). What my teacher wants me to do is to write a lab talking about all these factors but my hypothesis and prediction has to be very general, just answering the problem in one sentence without going into detail with each factor. I'm really confused as to how to start this lab report. Any hypotheses/predictions you can think of? and what research should i add in my introduction..i think i should research on enyme activity but i'm not sure. Please help me!! I would really appreciate it :)
Hypothesis: changing environmental factors changes the enzyme activity
increasing the pH or temperature of the solution will increase the enzyme activity until the optimum temperature/pH is reached then onwards it will start to decrease and extreme changes in pH/temperature will denature the enzyme
in creasing the enzyme concentration will increase the enzyme activity till there is a shortage of substrate
increasing the substrate concentration will increase enzyme activity till the enzyme is saturated with the substrate( see michealli menton's equation)
addition of inhibitor will decrease the enzyme activity as the inhibitor either inhibits the enzyme activity by binding to the active site (competitive inhibition) or denaturing the enzyme
