Technical Writing Project Management

7 mistakes of web project managers

If you are a company or a project manager, check out these 7 mistakes of web project managers to gain some insight into some things you should avoid when it comes to managing a web project.

Web design and Development involves three levels:

  • Web management
  • interaction design (navigation support, homepage layout, templates, search, etc.)
  • content design (the actual writing on the pages, as well as the design of any other media types used to communicate content as opposed to site interaction)

FACT: users only care about content. The message has to be the message and the medium is not the message. Usability of a website is also extremely important to users. If they can’t figure out how to use your website, then they will leave immediately.

1. Not Understanding the Company’s Goals
This is by far the biggest issue I see when I evaluate a site for SEO and Marketing. It baffles me as to how many websites I see on a daily basis that make we wonder who the target market is. I evaluated an electronics company the other day, and it read like a technical document. By the second page, I was lost. Guess what? Consumers viewing this site are too.

In this day and age, you need a website, to be considered as a professionally run organization. Its fine if you only want to create a virtual business-card site with a small amount of corporate imagery, directions to your offices, corporate affiliations, goals, investment relations, etc. Honestly, this is not the most effective use of the web for your business, as you are not targeting consumers.
Your job as a project manager should always be assisting companies in finding ways in which they can provide legitimate customer value on their site.

2. Designing a site for the company executives and employees
Internally-focused websites sites cause companies to end up with home pages full of useless mission statements, corporate history, the CEO’s CV, etc. While most of this is necessary, make sure it all goes on the “About Us” or “Company Info” page, not the home page. The website should be designed with customers' needs in mind and not to promote or pump-up the company without any regard for the consumer. Building a site for the company executives only serves one target audience: the executives. So make sure you build a website for the people who you want to sell your products or services to. If you want to make the executives happy, then build an Intranet with an internal website dedicated to all things about the company. Intranets are a great way for employees and executives to communicate and work together to accomplish the goals of the company. But the truth is, Consumers WILL NOT buy from you if they do not feel important and respected.

3. Outsourcing certain aspects of the web design project to Multiple Agencies

If you are planning on outsource every Web project to a new agency (or even worse, India), your site will end up looking like a patchwork quilt instead of a simple and clean interface. As with most agencies or outsourced companies, they want to put their own individual stamp of creativity on it. This tends to end up in a huge mess. The goal here is consistency.

Users and Consumers do not like to click on different pages where the design aspect changes from page to page. In their eyes, you have lost your credibility and will most likely lose sales and repeat business. Not only that, if the company plans to use the website to showcase to investors, well, guess what they are going to think also? A website is more than just a calling card, its Y-O-U. With that said, having a mismatched design, only stands to make you look unprofessional.

Use only one agency or design firm to design the site from start to finish. Make sure they have the skills and talent and above all, communication ability to provide the services. Communication breakdowns or no communication are what kills many a web project.

4. Don’t forget about Maintenance and updates
The Internet changes so fast that a major redesign is needed at least once per year simply to avoid a completely outdated look and to accommodate changing user expectations. You will always need to develop and implement fresh content. Using a Content Management System (CMS) is by far the best way to avoid spending a ton on site redesigns. CMS systems are easy to manage and changing the template (face) of the website is relatively easy and cost-effective.

5. Underestimating the need for Marketing when designing a web project
Like I said earlier, designing a site for the executives is a HUGE mistake and if that is the case, you can throw out any marketing strategies you have. Another big thing to remember is building a site without Search Engine Optimization in mind. So if you build an all flash based website, the search crawlers will not be able to read it and index it, and some users (especially those still on dial-up) will not be able to even view your website. Another negative about flash is that the user must have the most current flash player installed in order to view your site properly. If users have to take the time to install software to view your site, most will leave immediately.

The key here is to make a website for the consumer and make it as easy as possible for them to navigate. CMS systems are built with SEO in mind, so check them out. Wordpress currently has a plug in called All-In-One that works great. So does Joomla, which has now incorporated Meta information that you can easily fill out with titles and keywords that are relevant to each page.

Improving Technical Writing Skills

Have desk, will write by Bright MeadowThe Value of Developing Your Writing Skills

Dont get discourage if you feel like you dont have any skills in writing. As a result, you wont get your work done if you keep on believing that way. You might wonder how certain individuals had produced such a wonderful and successful piece in writing.

You should always keep in mind that all of these successful and experts writers start from scratch and eventually, they progress in the field of writing. Therefore, one can improve gradually in terms of their writing abilities and this is not something that only selected people can have. A person can possess a writing talent since they are first born and they develop this ability for them to improve and became better writers. This is something that one can acquire through constant practice and application.

If you really want to write, if you really want to be a writer or if you want to accomplish any writing task that has given unto you, despite having a little confidence on what you can do and even if you believe that you cant write well, you can achieve that kind of writing goal through constant practice. Having this kind of determination to write helps you to improve your writing skills.

Although anyone can be a better writer, there are only few of them who possess this kind of determination to pursue their writing.

Many people are born with writing talent. However, few are able to develop it enough to get to a level where they can make a living as professionals.

When you first discover your affinity with the written word, its usually a pleasant surprise. Anytime we find ourselves good at something, its natural to feel some amount of joy and pride because of it. Almost instantly, you become interested in everything that has to do with it. Because of that, you write.

You write to exercise your creative juices. You write to share what you know with as many people as possible. You write to entertain readers who appreciate your ability to play with words. Apart from doing all that, we suggest another one: try writing with the sole goal of developing your technical abilities.

Basic writing ability, unfortunately, is seldom enough to make a real living as a writer. Talent without technical development is tantamount to having a DIY kit without any instructions on how to build it. Chances are, youll end up making mistakes left and right, apart from turning out less-than-ideal results.

If you have inklings of becoming a professional in the writing field, then never discount the value of technical skills. Raw talent affords you basic communication, the same way that writing software can help you clean up poor grammar and syntax. The learned and honed skills are what puts everything over the edge.

Learn to value your writing abilities. Dont stop on practicing or inventing new writing styles which you can sooner apply it into a different kind of writing task. This way, it will help you to improve your writing and to prove that anyone can write effectively if they really want to.

How To Write a Business Plan That Works

Article 2 – Business Planning

How to Write a Business Plan that Works!

If you are a new start up business operator then you should have already completed our Feasibility Study which you can grab by visiting our website and you have determined that your new business idea is in fact a viable business venture...Congratulations! Now we carry what you have found throughout your Feasibility Study and move that information into a plan that is going to work for you, every day in helping your drive your business forward towards a profitable success.

If you are a current business owner and you feel you may have lost your direction or you are lacking the ability to drive your business forward, then our business plan is going to change all of that and hand you back the reigns to your business! You will take this plan and implement it and immediately notice results easing the pressure on you as a manager and helping you see the light at the end of that tunnel.

So why do we do a business plan?

Usually if you require funding for your business you are going to need a business plan to prove that you are going to spend the banks money in a way that they see is planned, fair and organised. You must prove that you know where you are heading, in great detail.

However the real reason every business owner must operate with a plan is because without one you are simply treading water. I know you are groaning at me right now because you believe all of your wonderful ideas are up there somewhere in your head and you believe that you are somehow implementing those ideas into your business everyday. Chances are if you are reading this article, that you have realised that ideas in head = confused business operator who cannot grow and drive their business forward.

We do a business plan so that day in day out we have one very important thing; Clear Direction.

Clear Direction = Profitable Business.

Simple.

Let’s take a look at what your plan should include. We will then discuss how to implement it. It’s dead simple.

Step 1 – What are the Primary Objectives of Your Business

The Primary Objective Section is simply a short paragraph that outlines your overall intention for the business, or your mission statement. Do not fluff or overdo your mission statement. Keep it clear, short and concise. All you are doing here is stating exactly what it is you intend to do.

Step 2 – The Summary of Your Plan

In a nutshell, describe each section of your business so that it is clear in your mind just how this business will run.

  • The Concept - Where has your idea come from and what do customer need do you intend to fill by starting this business?

  • The Product and Service - What do you intend to produce and supply and briefly how you to intend to do this?

  • Market Research - What has your market research revealed? Is there a dire need for your product and service and how will your product or service fulfil that need? What will you do that your competitors are not?

  • Marketing Strategy - What strategies are you going to outline in your plan that can demonstrate how you will reach your customers?

  • Funding - What will the initial funding be and where will it come from? What other funds do you have to pay for the first year of expenses and what earnings do you expect to see within the first 12 months of operation.

Step 3 – Brief Description of Your Business

This is where you:

  • Describe the core activities of your business?
  • Business name and details?
  • The current position of the business; new or established?
  • Where will the business be located/where is it already located?
  • Where the business will be in 2 and 5 years?
  • What Structure have you chosen and why?

Step 4 – SWOT Analysis

Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats?

This is where you outline your strengths and weaknesses as a business and opportunities and threats outside the business. Under each heading, use bullet points to outline your advantages and disadvantages and be completely honest; especially when considering your weaknesses as a business or individual and what will threaten your business. Only by being honest in these areas can you identify which areas of your management ability and the business requires the most attention.

Step 5 – Analyse Your Market

It is essential to show that there is a sound customer base for the business or that you get to know your customers better than they know themselves. Provide a description of the market in terms of the following:

• Who are the customers?

• What is their geographical location?

• How many customers are there in this location?

• What is their purchasing power?

• How are they accessed?

• What is the stability of the market and expected growth (or decline)?

• What are the seasonal trends?

• What influences the customers?

• What is the price sensitivity?

• What is the competitive edge?

How have you determined this knowledge? What proof do you have to support your research? Be thorough here and provide proof of your findings.

Step 6 – Marketing Strategies

How do you intend to market your business both offline and online?

Break your marketing strategies into the following sections and bullet point your answers:

  • Customer Service
  • Promotional Literature
  • Advertising
  • Location
  • Website
  • Online Advertising
  • Unique Selling Position/Competitive Advantage

The BusiWizard ebooks can help you master this field.

Step 7 – Sales and Production Targets/Working Capital

In a dollar value and product amount, what do you intend to sell each month/year and how are you going to fund your working capital each week/month until you are paid? You must be able to outline where your funds are coming from to fund a service (if need be) until you are paid.

Outline in words how you intend to do this by breaking down your estimated profit per month and your estimated working capital requirements. Also determine how you will pay for your operating and advertising costs until you begin to see profit.

If your business is already operating, outline how you are doing this currently.

Step 8 – Business Growth and Development

How do you intend to grow your business? How will you increase your sales, optimise the use of the business infrastructure that you have created?

How will you improve and become more efficient? What management skills do you have to be able to do this and how do you intend to do it step by step?

This is the most crucial part of your plan as this will determine whether your business grows with market trends and whether you have the ability to consistently give your customer what they want as your customer base grows and as you grow busier, prove how you are going to continue to drive your business forward whilst still running it each day?

What systems and structure will you have in place to do this?

Be very, very specific throughout this section and break it into the following areas:

Management Processes; what account and customer management processes will be in place to ensure the business runs smoothly?

Financial Position; how will you monitor your financial position? What percentage of your profits will you allow to grow the business?

Products and Services; How will you continue to monitor your products and services compared to that of your competitors?

Marketing and Advertising; What marketing and advertising will you use to ensure your business grows?

Step 9 – Production

Provide an outline of how the products and services will be produced:

• The skills, qualifications and experience of the proprietors

• The equipment required

• Sources of raw materials

• Subcontracting

• Technical requirements

• Personnel

Step 10 – Financial Requirements

It is vital to assess total funds required to set up a business and cover its operating costs until it becomes profitable. At first glance, it may appear that all that is required is stock, basic fixtures and perhaps the first month’s rent. However, there are many other costs and expenses in starting a business and you should consider every possible expense.

Above you have already outlined in words what kind of profit you intend to see, what type of funding you are going to acquire and how. Now you are simply going to pinpoint what your exact expenses will be and whether your funds will support your expenditure.

Our ‘Pull Out Business Template’ supplied with a video tutorial in our Ebooks cover this section in great detail so be sure to grab yourself the course if you require further assistance fleshing out the following areas of expense.

  • Pre Business Costs
  • Initial Costs
  • Capital Costs
  • Possible Direct/Renovation Costs
  • Possible Overhead Expenses for the First Year

Step 11 – Projected Profit and Loss/Cashflow

Now that you have outlined your expenses, you can project your profit for each month of the year and establish your profit or loss...

When estimating your profit, it is important to be realistic about what you are going to sell. Work on minimal figures to be safe. For example, if you are an electrician and you are starting a new business. You may estimate an average of two small jobs per week for the first 2 months and then build your job list from there. You would estimate the profit received from those jobs and this will become your profit projection for each month and for a whole year.

To calculate your projected profit and loss simply add all outgoings for the first year to establish your required capital (this will include all direct or initial set up costs). Subtract your outgoings from your incomings and there you have your estimated profit or loss. When costing your products or services be sure to include your profit in the price so that the business is sure to stay afloat. To establish what your bottom line will be, simply take out the estimated profit and there you have the bottom line financials that you must make to stay afloat.

It is possible that for the first year you will have a loss so you will need to determine how you are going to fund your business until you begin to see profit.

Factor into your monthly profit or loss statement that your business will require cash flow. Cash flow shortages can arise from customers not paying on time or from an over order of stock etc so you must understand that your projection is simply that, a projection. Allow a certain amount of profit or funds to be available for business cash flow. Talk to your accountant or book keeper to certify what kind of cash flow you will require and to double check that your estimated figures are realistic estimates.

To grab yourself a free profit and loss projection form googling Microsoft Templates and searching for a P and L Projection.

Step 12 – Personnel

The proprietors and staff are the most important resource of a small business and good arrangements between the business and its personnel is necessary to ensure the success of a business, especially in the long term. The following matters need to be considered:

• Arrangements between the proprietors?

• Involvement of family members?

• Assessment of staff and subcontractors’ performance?

• Contribution of staff to the development and implementation of business plans?

• Training programs?

Step 13 – Administration

What records do you have to keep and how are you going to keep them?

Some items to consider may be:

• Cash book

• Receipt book

• Invoices, received and sent

• Bank deposits and statements

• Petty cash expenditure

• Wage, WorkCover, superannuation, long service leave records, and employee details

• Capital assets register

• Materials purchased and allocated to each job or temporarily as floating stock

• Contact details of all enquirers, existing clients, suppliers and subcontractors

• Individual job records showing progress

• Job estimates

Provide a detailed summary as to what type of account, customer relationship management and office organisation system you intend to use.

Outline your experience in using these types of systems and if none, outline personnel who will be hired to undertake the job for you or training that you will undertake to ensure you can manage the administration side of your business.

Wow, that is your plan complete!

I know what you are thinking... You are cringing at the thought of putting a document like that together. But here’s the good news. It doesn’t have to be long and complicated, it can be 3 pages long if you stick to the important information and keep it clear and simple.

Now, how do we implement it into everyday business life?

This is the really easy part. Gab a white board and a diary and plan ahead every month including everything from your plan you decided to work on for the whole year. Yes this requires effort, but once you begin to start using your plan everyday by taking what you set out to do and sticking it right under your own nose everyday it will become like second nature and yo will start to see your processes streamlined as your business continues to grow with ease.

You have outlined in your plan your marketing principles, your projections for profit, your management and structural processes and much more. Now take that information and decide for the first 3 months what you are going to achieve. Tick it off as you go. Now for the next three months repeat the process ensuring that you are taking on more marketing and systemising your business as you go. This is how you drive yourself forward. Allow time to implement and take responsibility for your plan.

The only way to implement your plan is to do just that. Take it, read it, write it down on your weekly to do lists and actually start physically implementing it!

So off you go, right now write your plan and start implementing it immediately.

Don’t forget our comprehensive Ebooks cover everything from planning to management and marketing for small business operators just like you. A Step By Step Guide that is absolutely packed with resources, useful information, templates, tutorials and more to walk you through your daily journey as a business manager. It will save you hours of time, oodles of cash and give you the freedom you deserve to have as a business owner. Best Wishes!

REPORT: FOREIGN POLICY... please help me w/ my US History!!!!!!!?

REPORT: FOREIGN POLICY

Research the policies of internationalism and isolationism. Then discuss the advantages of both internationalism and isolationism in a 400-700 word written report. Determine which view you prefer and defend your position in your report.

Spanish American War is a good example of internationalism. It was the US's entry into the world stage. Prior to that it had been isolationist.
Leading up to WW1 and 2, the U.S. had been isolationist. Both put the US deeply enmeshed in foreign policy.

Process Of Technical Writing

process of technical writing"process of technical writing"
Can anyone??

Describe the skills of a successful technical writer? What are three examples and their importance to the technical writing
process?

The skills of a successful technical writer are up-to-date knowledge of the subject, accuracy and inventiveness.

Up-to-date knowledge is essential in order to keep ahead of your readers. I would imagine readers of technical literature are pretty au fait with the subject they are reading around. You've got to know more than they do.

Accuracy and a meticulous writing style is essential in order that no mistakes occur.

I've put inventiveness by which I mean an ability to make what you are writing interesting. To be able to write in a fresh and entertaining manner even tho' the subject is technical

Please be aware, I am only guessing - I have no experience of technical writing!!!!!

How to Write a Good Resume: Use Fewer, But More Powerful Words

There is a strong tendency to want to say far too much on a typical resume. Your resume should be direct and to the point. Every phrase and every word should be highly relevant. That is how your resume should read.

Understandably, there is an impulse to add endless details to your resume since you don't want to miss any opportunity. After all, while you have your reader's attention - there is the urge to get everything out on the table. The problem is that too much information - "TMI" as my kids tell me - will tend to loose rather than keep the attention of the hiring manager. To prove this point, get a long resume of, say, a colleague and read through it. If it is longer than two pages, unless this person has quite an exotic work history, you will almost certainly be skimming, once you are more than two pages into the resume.

It may help to always keep in mind the primary objective of a resume. Better yet, let's review what a resume is not expected to accomplish. I suppose it could happen, but the real objective is not to get the hiring manager to offer you a job based on your resume. The primary objective is to get the interview! After you get to the interview stage you will have the right setting for discussing in detail your work history and any transferable skills that apply to the job opening.

Actually, when you think about it, too much information can have the opposite effect. When a hiring manager is making decisions about a stack of candidates, all it takes is a "no" about some aspect - any aspect - of the candidate's background and into the trash your resume will go. After all, he or she has reams of resumes to choose from. Best is to provide brief but action packed statements of capabilities and results, leaving the manager hungry for more details.

A good resume is one in which:

1 - your objectives are consistent with the company and the position being filled

2 - you a have solid track record as a competent employee who gets things done

3 - you have sufficient hands-on experience with the technical or procedural aspects of the job.

As you try your hand at being economical with words, emphasize what you accomplished over what was done day to day. In other words, emphasize what you designed, managed, created, what the company gained by your talents, etc. Most other details can be trimmed, with the exception of highly relevant keywords. Work those keywords in as bait for resume database searches. For example, if you used key software tools that every candidate is expected to know, work in a reference to those tools. If you are at an expert level for a certain skill that sets you apart, work that in, too.

How long should your resume be? If you are just starting out, or if you have worked for 10 years or less for one employer, then you should be able to keep it to one page. If you are more "senior", or if you a "fast track" employee with lots of accomplishments, then a two pager is fine.

Bottom line? Focus on the ways employer will benefit from hiring you. Do this in the section where you describe your career objectives. The remainder of your resume should consist of concise statements about your past accomplishments and the set of skills you offer - all providing the evidence that you can provide that benefit.

Technical Writer Work

Content Centric - How to Make Website/business Presentation/technical Content Work for You

Content drives the power to make heads turn. A single word sometimes can attract or turn off its audience. Your prospective clients might be thoroughly convinced that you are the product or service they are looking for or might be completely convinced otherwise. Content writing can work both ways, to your advantage or to your disadvantage. Keeping content to your advantage in any and every situation requires a certain amount of experience, maybe a tablespoon or two of intellect and of course a whole lot of talent. Words having the power to sell, compel or unite are the ones that are crafted with the help of exceeding talent and unending intellect.

Content changes with its purpose, audience and message. The same content writing style and tone are not understood the same way by diverse persons who are looking within your content for fulfillment of their unique purpose. Your customers might read your flyer to understand more about your business, your prospective partners might sit through your corporate presentation to understand your investment potential and a visitor to your website might do so buy your product/service online. For precisely this reason, the style, intention and tone of the content on these cannot be the same. Understanding this minute yet blatant differentiation helps create content writing services that individually speaks to your different clients, shareholders, and prospective.

Business presentations require content to be concise and to the point. You cannot afford to be verbose as your audience might lose interest and render your presentation useless. Business content writing services must broach the subject immediately and thoroughly. This understanding helps create business presentations that are compelling yet concise and effective.

Website content can be wordy or brief depending upon the purpose of the website. In general though, website/online content is kept brief as reading from a screen is slower than reading print. So get your message across, convince prospective clients that you product/service is the best or incite volunteers to join your cause in 450 words or less. Website content writing services are most effective when sprinkled with a balanced dose of well-researched keywords. But that’s the story of another article…

Corporate communications should spell three things professionalism, professionalism and still more professionalism. The corporate image that you are trying to project must be of foremost importance when writing for corporate communication. The business intention should be the next. Both these things need to be blended into stately content that speaks clearly and with marked elegance.

Marketing material – flyers, brochures, sales presentations needs to be centered solely around your marketing intention. Keeping content in a flow that stimulates the thoughts of the readers to align themselves with the business intention is the art of writing good content for marketing material. Whether you are talking of the Eiffel tower but selling antique ink pens you need to connect the two in an intelligent manner to convince your reader to perform the required action.

Manuals and process documentation should be as wordy and comprehensive as seems fit for the particular subject. When writing for manuals and process sheets you must remember that the reader is not aware of the second-switch minute feature of the subject. Hence, labeling and cross referencing play a major part in manual and technical writing.

Technical Communication Career

Is an Associate in Arts (A.A.) Degree useful in the work field?

I'm thinking of going to the community college in my area and when i attend i'll be majoring in the Communication Arts – Theatre Option. Which is great for acting, directing, technical theatre or any related career in the theatre. I chooses it for those reason because i want to become an actor, creative writer etc so it obviously a good choice for me but i want to make sure that the degree is something that i can USE..... Thanks in advance.

Those are extremely competitive fields and I doubt an AA would help you out too much. It's still better than nothing and can help you find a job, it just might not be an acting/creative writing job.

University Study Skills

What A level subjects should I take in order to study Theoretical Physics in university?

Hello im currently doing my GCSEs, and i'm wondering what a levels I should do next year. I'm planning on doing 4 a levels, 3 of them being Maths, Further Maths and Physics. I'm just wondering what would be good for a fourth subject, im thinking either chemistry or philosophy, can anyone please advise me what to take? And can you tell me if i need any IT skills, and if a do, pls tell me what i need. Thank you

It doesn't matter what 4th a level you take. Maths, further maths and physics will be sufficient for the course you want to do. I recommend that for your 4th a level you do a subject that you enjoy as the other 3 a levels you are doing are quite intense (I did those a levels a few years ago).

As for needing IT skills. They are important for any course but you don't need a formal qualification (higher than GCSE). If you're not doing GCSE ICT then you could do a key skills qualification in IT.

Hope this helps.

Effective Technical Writing

2 Secrets To Effective Article Writing

Using article marketing can help you build your online business. Imagine that an online marketer has just sent you an email or article relating to a subject you are having problem comprehending. The article is supposed to contain key information that you need so as to implement this strategy in your own business. With eagerness you rush to your mailbox to access the material. But there's a problem: The article is so badly written that you can't find the information you need.

There are all sorts of technical problems with the written material—misspellings, incomplete sentences, dangling terms and phrases, as well as paragraphs that are so long that reading through them is a real test of patience. Have you ever encountered a situation similar to this?

In today's world that's become truly overloaded with information, it is vital to communicate clearly, concisely and effectively. Most people don't have time and patience to read book-length articles when they need a simple explanation. Most are in a hurry to accomplish more in less time, and so may not be prepared to forage through a lengthy and poorly-constructed article in search of a simple point that's buried at the center of nowhere.

The more effective your writings are, the better the impression you'll make with people, and ultimately, the better the chances that people will INDEED READ your articles after you've labored to write them. And you never know how far this can impact on your business! The length of this article will not allow us to discuss this topic exhaustively. For now, let's look at two ways you can improve your writing skills, what I call 2 secrets to effective writing.

Secret No. 1: Keep Your Audience In View: Who are you writing for, or what is the purpose of your article? Until you correctly answer this question to yourself, you cannot determine what format your article needs to take. One thing is sure; an advertising copy isn't going to be written the same way as an email meant for a prospective client. Additionally, whether the tone of your voice would be formal or relaxed depends on who your would-be reader is.

Having determined who you're writing for, write to appeal and to convince, but never to impress. Bear in mind that your readers may not know a thing about the topic you're writing about. So educate them in a most simple but effective manner. Start from the beginning—from simpler to more complex areas of the subject.

Secret No. 2: Pay Attention to Grammar: Effective writing does not stop with what you say. HOW you say it is equally important. You surely don't need me to tell you that constant grammatical errors in your writing will make you look less than a professional. It's essential for every writer to learn the rules of grammar in order to avoid certain mistakes which your spell checker cannot detect.

If you habitually jumble up words in your writing, that could seriously detract from the message you are communicating. Your readers may soon get tired of making up words for you, and your article will gradually lose appeal. But then you don't really need a doctorate in English to write effective articles which obey the rules of grammar. My personal research has shown that over 80% of grammatical blunders occur mainly as a result of carelessness with words—especially a stubborn refusal by many to PROOFREAD their articles before hitting "send."

The remaining errors in this regard occur when writers use words they are not very familiar with. You can eliminate this type of error by either taking note of how such words are used by seasoned authors (especially the context under which they're used), or you could look them up in a reference work.

If you don't have the time for any of these two options, then stick to words you know. You can still put together an effective article with simple, flowing language. But if you are a professional writer, enlarging your vocabulary is something you'll eventually have to give thoughts to, as it will add color and gloss to your writings.

If you can identify your audience before setting out to write, and if you pay attention to the rules of grammar, these will help you to write more clearly and effectively. And the more you write and practice these techniques, the more effective your writing will become. If you would like more information on article writing visit thearticlemarketingqueen.info

Why do people give nicknames?

I am writing a report on why people give others nicknames. I would LOVE it if you would give me your insight and views on why people give nicknames to others. What do you think? Is it an emotional attachment? or maybe a sign of friendship?
10 points to the answer that makes the most sense :D

I believe it's a sign of affection. I give nicknames to the people I have the closest relationships with.

That is, of course, not including the mean names some people call others just to be mean. I don't give mean nicknames.

System restore=cant be done! Help!?

Everything was working fine, then I downloaded firefox and I HATED it so I deleted it. Then my browser (explorer 8) had no ad ons (flash activ x etc) so, I fixed that but....
no matter what date I go back to my computer tells me that it was unable to do a system restore and that no changes were made....
Nothing works! (well everything seems to be working properly, I just cant do a system restore which I really want to do)
I am using XP.

Im smart but not too technical so if you could write instructions like this: start>mycom>C> etc that would be great!

Thankyou
I am not using norton.
I was doing a system restore for a different reason. The problem with the ie8 is solved. The problem is I cant do a system restore AT ALL.
I HATE FIREFOX! I'll download whatever you tell me is BEST just as long as I can take all my favourites with me (which I couldnt with firefox) FYI FAVOURITES and NOT BOOKMARKS

Have you tried a system restore in safe mode? Press the F8 key when the computer is booting up and run Windows in safe mode. Then try a system restore.

EDIT:

If you need a good Browser, try Google Chrome. It may be difficult to get use to because it has a much cleaner look to it but you can import your favorites (they are called bookmarks in Google Chrome but they are your favorite pages you saved in IE8)

You can add all of your favorites in the bar at the top, and also search google from the address bar. It's pretty handy. I love it.

Once you have it downloaded look here: http://www.google.com/support/chrome/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=96816

It will tell you how to import your IE favorites.

Memo Technical Writing

memo technical writing_2"memo technical writing"
What are some animal related topics that can be used for multiple reports?

I am currently in a technical writing course in college and have been asked to find a topic to use for multiple reports. These reports include a topic memo, description memo, status report, analytical report, and final presentation. I am majoring in pre-veterinary medicine and would like to use an animal related topic that is broad enough to use for each of these projects. The first one we will be working on is the topic memo, so I'm just looking for a good topic now.

Thanks in advance for your suggestions!

Animal rights comes to mind immediately.

Shelter care -- pros and cons of no-kill and high-kill shelters, costs, whose responsibility it should be to fund them, etc -- also covers a broad range.

How humans and animals get along, who needs whom most, and so on might also be interesting.
