My recommendation is that she join the American Medical Writers Association. They have online certification programs for medical writers and various specialty tracks. They also have networking opportunities, a job board, and a directory for freelancers.
The association will help her with what steps to follow for a career in medical writing. The first thing she needs to do is learn the skills of the trade which are covered in the Essential Skills certificate. You don't have to be a member to take the courses, but if she is going to take quite a few of them in one year, it is cheaper to join then register for the courses at the member rate.

I'd recommend you reverse the order. Do the course in technical writing first, get a job in that field, and work a couple of years. Then go back for the MBA. You'll be a stronger candidate after the MBA if you go this track.

I have a two year degree in Early Childhood Education. I am now 47 years old and want to age gracefully doing something different with an option of various doors. I am looking for an online school with this program of study in a BA. Kaplan Online University seen to be a good choice. What are some of the pros and cons to this major/minor? Don't go to one of those for-profit online universities. See if your local state university offers the same degree program online. They almost certainly will, and it will be cheaper and better respected. If not, find a state university in another state.
As for communications/technical writing - technical writing mostly is likely to consist of writing manuals for consumer electronics products and the like. It is one of the stabler, better paid types of writing jobs you can get, but it might not be so interesting. Communications degrees are very common, and not terribly well respected, and are rarely useful, except for jobs where you just need a bachelor's degree of some sort.

I know this sounds like a stupid question. Why would someone who isn't computer saavy want to pursue a degree in Computer Science, right? For one, I have my degree in Technical Writing and I think the additional degree would give me a huge boost. Also, I have worked closely with computer engineers over the past few years and find what they do very interesting. My question is, will I learn everything I need to know and be ok, or do you think you need to be skilled with computers from the get-go to pursue the degree?

You don't have to know anything. That's the whole point of getting the degree -- to learn all that.

I'm in a graphic novel / comic strip class and I am in the process of writing my final paper for the course on Family Circus by Bil Keane. I was wondering if anyone had any background information on the comic panel that can't be found online, particularly in the art aspect. I don't have any art knowledge, so if anyone knows any technical terms about how the cartoon is drawn / colored, that'd be extremely helpful. I'm also wondering if the comic was originally done in color, or if that was introduced later. If anyone has any information they can provide for me, that'd be great!
